bullet Cognitive Behavioral Disorders Stemming from Brain Injury

Board Certified Psychologist, George Michael Cuesta, PhD has extensive experience in successfully treating behavioral disorders stemming from traumatic  brain injury. His practice is located at the Burke Rehabilitation Hospital in White Plains (Westchester County), New York.

Traumatic brain injury is also called acquired brain injury or simply head injury, and take place when a sudden trauma causes damage to the brain.

Doctor Cuesta has extensive experience in treating both the cognitive and neurobehavioral consequences of brain injuries. The main goals of the neuropsychologist when treating patients with cognitive or neurobehavioral brain injury include a) restoration of functions that can be restored, and/or b) teaching patients how to do things differently when functions cannot be restored to pre-injury level.

There are many behavioral problems that can result from a brain injury.  These include but are not limited to the following:

bulletAggression
bulletAgitation
bulletAnxiety Disorders
bulletApathy

These problems are not typically treated in isolation and require a team effort.  Neurologists and neuropsychologists are often part of that team depending on the severity of the problems.

Every cognitive and  behavioral disorder stemming from brain injury injury is  unique.  Recovery depends greatly on getting the correct diagnosis and clinical treatment. and ensuring that good support systems are in place.
