Anxiety Disorders
The National Institute of Mental Health identifies anxiety
disorders as the most common mental health problem in America.
Anxiety disorders are a serious and recognized medical illnesses
that affects over twenty million American adults.
Anxiety disorders fill people's lives with overpowering anxiety and
fear. Anxiety disorders are chronic, relentless, and can grow
progressively worse if not treated.
George Michael Cuesta, PhD is a Board Certified Clinical
Psychologist / Neuropsychologist has been successful treating
anxiety disorders for over a decade at the Burke Rehabilitation
Hospital in White Plains (Westchester County), New York.
The Five major types of anxiety disorders are:
Generalized
Anxiety Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive
Disorder (OCD)
Panic
Disorder
Post-Traumatic
Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Social
Phobia (or Social Anxiety Disorder)
Fortunately, the vast majority of people with an anxiety disorder
can be helped with the right professional care (psychologist /
neurospychologist). Some individuals require only a few months of
treatment, while others may need a year or more.
Treatments are specifically customized for each individual, but
there are a number of standard approaches. Individuals with anxiety
disorders can almost always be treated without being admitted to a
hospital. There is no single correct approach to treating anxiety
disorders.
